I recently went on a date with a man I met on Hinge, who turned out to be 10 years older than his profile stated. While he still looked great, I couldn’t help but feel frustrated that he had lied about his age. This experience made me question whether people still lie on dating apps and if they’re willing to go to great lengths to catch someone’s attention.

During our date, the man shared that he had a 16-year-old daughter who had recently moved to Mississippi, and that he had been in a year-long love affair with an immigrant woman on a K1 visa, flying her around the world. This made me wonder if men are willing to take risks and make impulsive decisions just to feel something.

After watching a TikTok video of a girl going on dates with random LA guys and having a fantastic time, I felt inspired to give dating another chance. I decided to take my time and get to know people better, evaluating whether there was a potential for a relationship.

Initially, I am attracted to physical appearance and swipe left if I’m not feeling it. Then, I look at their age, their profession, and their sign. However, after listening to a Jay Shetty interview with Lewis Hamilton on what qualities to look for in a partner, I realized that communication, empathy, and compassion are more important than shared interests. While shared interests are significant, it is possible to have a healthy relationship with someone who has different hobbies and preferences.

I used to skip over guys with fishing boat photos, but now I understand that these interests don’t define a person. Instead, I am looking for kindness, respect, good communication skills, and empathy. With Jay Shetty’s book “Eight Pillars of Love,” I am excited to dive deeper into intentional dating and find a successful partnership.

While some people may still lie on dating apps, it is important to evaluate potential partners based on their communication skills, empathy, and other positive qualities, rather than just shared interests. By taking a more intentional approach to dating, we can increase our chances of finding a successful partnership.
